Shattered

Shattered

Jul 21

by Angela Fardo

I see a light before me
A glimmer in my eye
Reflections from a street lamp
And then I start to cry

The pavement’s cold and lonely
And wet against my cheek
My friend she lay beside me but she no longer speaks

I gaze upon her pallid face
She rests in a bed of glass
The crimson droplets frighten me
How much more time will pass?

The sirens peal into my ears
My chest heaves out a *sigh*
The uniforms surround me
Again, I start to cry

Her face……
It haunts me night and day
I let her drink and drive
I hear my conscience softly say

She’s dead but I’m alive
